“Howl at the moon, young ones,” the beta wolf preached. “The mourning will soon begin for the great alpha wolf we lost. He is gone from this world of his own hand, so we cry out to guide him on. He has helped the younger to understand though at the cost of hurting all.” The cubs listened and to the moon they sang for the passing of the mighty wolf that really was a man. The ashes rolled through the waters as the moonlight bathed their backs. The constellations swirled to the music and formed the Wolfy’s sign. The Celtic cross shone in the sky for all to see and remember him. That sign did not leave with him; it lives on in the skin of his kin. The wolves cried out as their numbers grew to an alarming amount. We wondered how we all ignored the symptoms and let him go. But, really, we did not let him go, he lives on in our hearts for now and forever. All who knew him join in the Wolfy memorial song.
